Tookoo, Bigger Bang! & friends
Beijing

TOOKOO Bio:

TOOKOO started in 1999 by twin-brothers Lee, Xiaochuan and Xiaoquan. Overcome the long struggle of finding permanent members, the band’s solid line up is featuring Abe Gan (keyboard/Vocal), Xiaochuan Lee (Guitar/Vocal), Xiaoquan Lee (Bass/Vocal), ZhangShuai (Guitar) and LiuJia (Drums).

Tookoo artfully blends elements of emo, indie, and rock sounds, resulting in rousing, brash and energetic songs with melodies you can't get out of your head and a lead vocal you won't soon forget.

This cool, well-established rock band sings their original songs in Chinese and English and has released seven independent EPs since 2001. These EPs were re-released in 2008 through Scream Records as a compilation album titled 7 Years.

Tookoo have directly contributed to the development of rock music in China, performing to thousands of fans at hundreds of shows and music festivals across the country such as the Midi Music Festival 2002 to 2009, Modern Sky Music Festival and the MAX Festival, and at many rock venues that are now established across China.

In addition to touring annually across China, Tookoo have started to build a following across North East and South East Asia. The band has performed at Rock-It 2006 (Hong Kong), Live Show Vol.5 (Hong Kong), BayBeats 2007 (Singapore), Laundry Volume Series (Malaysia), Sutasi 2008 (Singapore) and One Movement Festival (Australia) to name a few.

Bigger Bang Bio:

Pupi, a former student of the Guangzhou Xinghai Music Academy, founded this powerful band in early 2008.After rehearsing a couple of times with her close friends, she found the perfect artistic combination: Abe Gan on guitar and synthe, YuXin on bass, and LiSiTong holding down the beats.

Once they had solidified their sound, The Bigger Band wrote and produced their first four songs in only four months time. This uptown rock and indie funkdelic band then took the Beijing concert circuit by storm with their futuristic/energy-filled sound. Playing shows every weekend, The Bigger Bang quickly gathered quite the following. Not only was their stage performance unforgettable, but so was their unique style.

In the end of 2008, bassist YuXin left the team for his dreams of Zen bliss. Upon his departure, LiYu, aka AZ, joined the band. The fresh energy that accompanied AZ’s arrival brought the foursome to a new level. This adroit group entered the Redbull Original Energy Music Competition and to no one’s surprise won the "best song of the year" Meanwhile, with help from their friends, The Bigger Bang issued their first live DVD.

The Bigger Bang continued their notorious live shows with a 2009 tour that took them across China and overseas. Many of their songs have since been featured on numerous VA indie rock albums released in Beijing, Shanghai, Taiwan. The Bigger Bang’s big news for this year is that they plan to release their first EP. Only bigger things can come for this indie China staple.
